I know this has come up for a few of you in some context. That is the ability to combine invoices together. I've had a couple of auctions where buyers were concerned that they weren't getting all of thier stuff shipped out because they requested a total while they still had bids hanging on other items. I try to blob as much stuff together when I ship -- helps keep the cost reasonable.

At the same time, there is the caveat that an invoice could become incorrectly combined. I'm not sure how you could glue it together in a cohesive way. This is me thinking out loud, so take it as you will.

Perhaps, we look at each invoice as a 'bucket' of sorts.
{insert gratuitous LOLrus "they be stealing my bucket..." joke here}

You could take multiple invoice buckets and place them in a larger 'invoice holding' bucket that could be appended to. This could act as a tool to combine shipping for multiple invoices. You zero out the shipping in the single invoice bucket, and then place a new shipping cost field in the multiple invoice holding bucket.

I think that needs some fleshing out, but can you see where I'm going with the idea?

What's embarrassing is that I really don't know how the site is coded/structured, and am only drawing on my own general programming knowledge. So Mike if the programmer responds with a WTF stare, just tell him I'm guessing wild. ;) :D

I actually combined invoices when my auctions had finished. What i did wish however was a way to contact the winner easily through a message to let them know I would combine everything when the last one was completed.
How did the one I sent you turn out if you remember?

Yep. That's the joke.

Seriously though...

I can combine auctions, as long as I don't send out an invoice and the buyer doesn't request a total. If either of those occur I find myself pretty much stuck. Unless I'm missing the 'squish all of this stuff together' function.

I agree. It would be nice if it were possible to combine invoices even after the first one has been sent. I have sent an invoice to a buyer and they are bidding on another auction that will end in a couple of days.

It would be really nice to be able to send them a combined, revised invoice after that auction ends.

Also, an easy way to contact bidders and buyers is a must. If they ask a question, then you can respond and establish a dialogue, but if they don't contact me, I don't see any way to send them a message or email without doing an invoice.

I agree oldgames.
While I can't bucket, I don't think I can duck it. So, here's one for the road ya'll. ;)

It's a bit of a pain but I went through this. One way I've found to contact them that isn't to crazy is this:

Get the buyers user id and go to their homepage like this:

My user name is brucebidder so type this into your url:
http://www.chasethechuckwagon.com/sites/"Insert the user name here(brucebidder would be mine)" Followed by a /, without the / it will not work
This takes you to their homepage and from there you can easily click send email and open a dialogue. The first time its a little wacky but I have my hompage as a favorite then I just copy their user name go to my homepage and edit the url by pasting over my name and running that way, make sure the user name is spelled exactly right and it is case sensitive. It takes a little getting used to but soon you will be flying through and emailing people.... Let me know if that works easier for you...

Hey Bruce -

I really appreciate you giving some of your tips like this. Helps me out alot :)

Mike,

It might be good to cut and paste Bruce's post into the FAQ area, or make a 'Tips' sticky and put his post as an entry there.
