What is different about the 2+ vs. the original Atari Flashback 2?

Someone did a game comparison, sounds like action games taken out for more sports games.

The bulk of the included games in the Atari Flashback2+ are the same. However, Pitfall, River Raid, Wizard, Caverns of Mars, and Atari Climber have been removed. In return a sports section has been added in replacement, that includes Realsports Boxing, Realsports Soccer, Super Baseball, Super Football, and Double Dunk.

Is the hardware the same? Meaning does it still support hardware hacking (cartridge slots, etc)?

I'd have to crack one open but I can't see them changing anything, it costs money, they probably just re flashed the ROM.

More sporst games? Meh. Probably won't pick it up then. Love the T-shirt though.

Go to the general mills link in the atariage post, it's worth a shot to win a FB2+ or an Atari hat or something.

I just hope they didn't foul up those controlers. From what I heard they were a real highlight of the Flashback 2.

I wouldn't worry about that, those molds are expensive to make and making new ones for a limited run would make no sense.

I'll respond to a bunch of the questions at once then -

Some games were removed, a sports series was added, the console and the sticks now use the new "old" fuji logo, new packaging and manual, etc.

The removed games were for licensing issues, they came to us with a very small budget (this is a limited run to start with). If it sells well through the two retailers, their site, and the Honey Nut Cheerios giveaway, there will probably be a larger production (including PAL finally) and hopefully on to the FB3.

Yes, these are based off the last Rev C boards with a few of the undocumented opcodes supplied to the chip fabricator now as well.

Not sure what you mean "foul up". If anything we improved the process a little. Same molds that are used for our usb controllers (http://www.legacyengineer.com/storefront/) as well.

Glad to see you here Martyg, there has been some high praise for the FB2 in our shows, earned praise. I know Curt wants to see his mobile happen, perhaps this will convince the right people that there is a market for the FB series.

OK. I need one for the office. Where can I buy an FB2 since I missed the FB1.

Well, this one started out as a special run for General Mills and grew in to a larger run when Atari decided to wet their feet again at retailers (most likely Target and Walmart like last time).

Yes, we still have the flashback portable ready to go. I'm also in the process of getting the FB3 dev system going.

Hopefully they see good sales through their site and the retailers, and decide to move forward with the other projects of ours.

You can get the FB2+ on their website right now, and most likely in Target and Walmart starting in March.

I would buy through retail chains to send the message.

Well, I'm a pinko hippie who doesn't shop at wal-mart, so Target it is!

Thanks Marty,

It's a real pleasure having you pop into our forums. I really hope the FB portable comes to market :) Will it have built in games as well as a cart slot?

Anything we're doing in the future either portable or plug and play, we're looking at SD card or USB support for games.

Your friendly neighborhood bacon man here, back after a unexpected absence (real life can SUCK sometimes). But I ain't leaving this time. ANnnnnyway, I got my flashback 2+ last Thursday and I absolutely love it. I missed out on the original Flashback 2, so this oldness is kinna new to me. Got a free Atari tshirt in the deal 2. BTW, there are 3 secret games in the 2+, Warlords and Circus Atari (also in the Flashback 2) and Super Breakout.

I got mine three days ago, and the t-shirt is really cool to have in the package :) I did a youtube video doign a side by side comparison of the two (and left a lot out, there are SOO many small differences).

On mine, the Fuji logo on the console is definitely different and old-style but on the joysticks ar ethe same as the last FB2. Hmm.

I'm still grieved about the fact this isn't available in the UK.
Btw, if it is released, any chance of a 50/60hz switch or simple mod to achieve 60hz?
I hate playing games designed for ntsc in pal.

Geoff.
