We had a suggestion from listener and forum member chalksalad to add a special thread to discuss the games covered in the It Came From Mame segment. Please feel free to also make recommendations for good & obscure games you would like to see covered in It Came from MAME.

Is there a listing where we can see all the games covered thus far (aside from digging through the show notes)?

My recommendation?
Ninja Baseball Batman. Great game that is never talked about. Very limited us release, but I think it was popular overseas.

Has "Trog!" been done yet? That's one of my favourite arcade games, really unique visuals for the time (I'm not sure if it was first to have claymation, but it definitely one of the first and the earliest example of it that I've found) they have an original cab over in Exeter at the Arcade bard and I played on it there at Hiscore and fell in love.

a few shows back on my catchup there was ann egg related game (which i've forgotten about already) and it reminded me of a fun game i used to play on my bosses mame box a few years ago when i was on late shifts
the game is Chicken Shift (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7326)
It starts off fairly simple, and similar to the train junction switching type games, trying to drop eggs into a safe basket. Once enough are collected it will switch to a second screen with chicks marching automatically through the barn, and you have to activate flippers to throw them over dangerous obstacles so that they can fly to freedom through the window.
After all the chicks are saved it returns to the first screen, but with more junctions and faster eggs and repeats this getting harder and faster.
It's not a game that would inspire anyone to try and marathon, but it's a great little pick up and play game, and get's really tricky when you've had sleep depravation or a few beers

Haha, coincidentally, I just played this game for the first time very recently, after it was featured as Game of the Day on a MAME blog I read (http://mamezach.blogspot.com/). I’d really recommend this blog to anybody who enjoys MAME, because in essence, it’s an “It Came From Mame” type of thing in blog form, and is updated just about every day with a new title.
Gameplay-wise, Ninja Baseball Batman is a beat-em-up in the TMNT/Simpsons vein, which isn’t really my thing. But the story, graphics, animations, and characters (especially the enemies) in this game are so freakin’ ludicrous, it had me laughing out loud at times. Definitely one of the biggest “WTF” games I’ve played in ages, and I’d choose it over TMNT any day of the week.

Nice to see Beastie Feastie getting some love this month. I've been playing it since discovering it about 5 years ago. It gets very fast around level 7 or so, but if you get in the zone you can play a lot further. Great game.
616Try this Donkey Kong hack/clone "Big Kong" on your MAME cab! The "Ramps" screen is insanely difficult! Did anyone ever see this in an arcade? Some guy posted a youtube video of one here:

If it has not been done already i would have to suggest `Eyes` by Rock-ola which is very unusual, the random chirps that make the game play music and the unusual eye characters drew me to the the game and i have played it ever since seeking it out on Mame. Its a maze game where you are chased by baddies (other Eyes) but not only can shoot the enemies but you have to shoot the items to be collected,as you progress the baddies shoot back when you are in line of sight meaning you have to twist and turn avoiding long corridors.

Hey SoCal. Dunno if I mentioned this in the past or not but a little known game thats absolutely brilliant is Libble Rabble (a very rare Namco game). Check it out - it would make a great It Came From Mame. I picked up the board years ago and can't believe how it flew under the radar. I think it was a Jap only release tho. Its very hard to describe the gameplay and style of the game but its a nice 2-stick control method and crazy fun.

It's actually called Mikie :-)
There's two versions and the one where you can head butt people is better. You use you joystick to tap people out of their chairs in order to collect the hearts.
But every time you stand up the teacher goes nuts and starts chasing you about. When you've got all the hearts you can open the door and get out into the hall and onto the next room.
Bit tricky to get past the first classroom but well worth persevering with.

Retroshaun - I didn't have Wiz Warz in my Mame cab? Was it also called something else, perhaps?
Just listened, pissing myself listening to you play Mikie.
To bump them out the seats you tap the joystick towards them. So if you're to the right of a student keep tapping left to knock them off their seat.
Once you've got all the hearts you can open the door. The button that isn't head butt is the one that'll open it when you're standing next to it.

Hey SoCal
If you never tried Aurail (Sega/Westone) give it a try. Basically you play a walker that can only shoot when standing still (think slower Jackal) with the occasion first person tunnel sections. You also have an 'option' (like Gradius) to help out once you have collected enough energy. Played this a lot in the arcade and hoped against hope that Sega would have brought this to the Genesis.

Some interesting games I've stumbled upon recently:
Magical Crystals - kind of hard to describe. An overhead run n' gun with a wizard theme, with platforming elements, and boss battles that play like shmups.
If you want to give Pac-Man a rest, here are some maze type games:
Mr. TNT - interesting play mechanic that doesn't allow you to tread the same path twice.
Mustache Boy - run around space stations collecting balloons and killing baddies with power ups. Not sure who thinks of this shit, but it's fun.
I'm Sorry - you're some big-headed Japanese guy running around a maze, avoiding and punching enemies that include Michael Jackson and Carl Lewis. Yeah, I thought it was weird too, but I played it for an hour straight.

A couple of interesting ones I have been playing lately:
Agent Super Bond (along the lines of Berzerk/Venture) and running on Super Cobra hardware. Mame warns there are corrupt ROMS and therefore the palette is screwy but the game is a lot of fun regardless.
Alia Baba and the 40 Thieves (a tough game, similar in style to Pacman/Lock n Chase)

Yeah. I actually played it on MAME before ever playing it on the 2600, but I agree. Personally, I don't think side-scrolling platformers work very well as arcade games in general, but that's just me. They tend to be more about "finishing the game" and I firmly believe the best arcade games are about getting a score.

Yeah, the sound sounds like it lags on here, and the way the graphics are reprogrammed are probably the reason this version was never remembered. But the theme is one of the 10 best songs in gaming, no doubt.
You should do Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Footbrawl. I already posted this on facebook, so I won't go on about it here. But it's a game that I cherish on my Genesis.

There was a game I loved playing when I was growing up in New York City in the mid-80's. Arcades were different in the city; you didn't go into an arcade to play the latest and greatest, instead you went to local bodegas (The 7-11's of the city), or laundromats. Anways, there was this one delicatessen that had Black Tiger. THis game was amazing, it was a combination of an adventure rpg with platform game elements. You would hack and slash through a numberof levels collecting enough zenny to upgrade your weapons and armor. At the end, you fight a dragon and save the kingdom. It's also found on the PSP game Capcom Classic collection remix. I'd love to get your thoughts on this; I've spent many hours and quarters trying to hack my way through all the levels. It's still my goto game!
Also, if you have a chance, Tiger Road was another one I remember - I could never get past the second level without geting pissed!

Socal, you need to check out Wall Street by Century Electronics (http://www.arcade-museum.com/manuf_detail.php?manuf_id=1317&orig_game_id=8156)
If you look on their page, it doesn't show up, but when you load it up in MAME it says by that company, and it sure sounds like a game by them. Anyways, what makes this so special is just how freaking bizarre it is. The first stage is set up exactly like the game and watch game Fire! but instead of catching people from a burning building, you're catching suicidal stock brokers(!) from leaping to their deaths. The more stockbrokers you transfer to the ambulance, a bar at the bottom of the screen representing the Dow Jones Index fills up. The second stage has you playing a stock broker (I'm assuming) robbing a bank....and escaping from tanks! You also have the ability to shoot lighting from your hands. Truly bizarre. I think it was only released in Europe. I can't say it's a particularly good game, but definitely worth a play at least once!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuyMmB0wyeo
From what I can tell, Century was mostly a ripoff company who did clones of games like Moon Patrol (Super Bike) and Track and field (Hunchback Olympics).
And holy cow - here's a UK guy from the company by the name of Peter Robinson on youtube admitting that his company ripped off other games. Looks like he was a programmer for the company: This guy should definitely be interviewed on the RGR show.

Hi Socal
I have a suggestion for It came from MAME.
The game is called Ordyne. It is a Japanese shooter from 1988 from Namco. I saw this game once on location back then and have played it on Namco Museum's Volume 4 on PS one. I like the graphics and the challenging game play that the weapons you buy from the store wear out after a given amount of time. Yes you do face an end of level boss in this game.

The other night, I randomly picked a game called “Horizon” on my cabinet and it is fantastic! It’s a 1985 game by Irem (of R-Type fame).
It borrows quite heavily from Moon Patrol, in that you roll from left to right and when you fire your shots go simultaneously above you and in front of you, taking out flying enemies as well as vehicles and obstacles on the ground. Personally I find Moon Patrol pretty dull, but Horizon kicks the formula up a notch by providing you with 3 different planes to drive on, creating a parallax “2.5 D” type experience. Addictive!

Horizon looks neat! Reminds me of the same 3 plane parralax effect used much later used in Guardian Heroes on the Saturn (one of my favorite games). I recall being able to switch between 3 planes (more like jumping) to beat up baddies.

Got another recommendation for you SoCal. One of my favorite early Capcom arcade games, Sidearms. You play as a mech pilot fighting an alien invasion. It plays somewhat like Gradius with collectible power ups and the arcade version has 2 player simultaneous play. You also have the ability to combine with another mech to let loose more firepower.
It suffers somewhat from what I like to call the "Gradius effect" where if you die half way through the level (and lose your power ups) you will be at a serious disadvantage. Even though it can get difficult, its a real fun game.
This game was ported to some computers back in the day which I have never tried. I do recommend trying the Turbo Grafx / PC Engine port of the game. Its a very good port with updated music. The only knock against the TG/PC Engine port is that its only a one player game. The game is also on the Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2 disc for Xbox/PS2.
