Ever since i first tried a vectrex and played ripoff on the Vectrex at Scott's place I've been dying to get one and finally today it happened. My wife and I are on our way back to Ohio from Florida and I decided to frantically search each city we pass through praying for some retro gamin goodness. I found a working Vectrex listed for $100 OBO on craigslist. It was only 20 minutes out of the way so we went for it! I checked it out and noticed that there was the typical humm but no game sound effects or music even after adjusting the volume for Minestorm. Is this normal? Does Minestorm have sound?
so I'm not sure if the sound was broke and convinced him to sell it for $80!
Any idea where I can find a Sean Kelly Multicart? No luck on Gamegavel or eBay :(
Looks like I might have to go to CGE and ask Jay to sign my new treasure!

You can buy the card direct from Sean, I am PMing you his email, if anyone else wants one PM me as well. I strongly suggest bringing the back of the cabinet to CGE since Jay does a great signature!

Oh yeah Minstorm has sound - all the games do - sounds like theres a fault somewhere, hopefully a simple one.

Oh, Awesome! I hope you get the sound working. The Vex is an epic system. Some of my favorite games are Star Castle, Scramble, Pole Position, Berzerk. And don't forget to check out the recent slew of homebrew games including Vector Pilot and Sundance ( I have both and they are awesome) and the upcoming Warrior.

Thanks SoCal! I ordered a Sean Kelly Multicart so I'll fire those games up as soon as I comes in.

Awesome Kynrek! I'm so jealous I might have to take a trip to Japan just to find my own vectrex.

Indiesoul, it would be worth it.
I had never seen a vector game in person untill a few months ago at Scott's. As soon as I saw Asteroids literally the first words out of my mouth were "this thing is freaking magical". The vector monitor makes the it look like you are literally shooting real lasers because of how bright the light beams are and the subtle trails you see as they travel across space. Next, I payed the Vectrex and it plays almost exactly like the real asteroids machine (if not better) and it's portable and obviously has tons more game options.
My dad loves asteroids on the Atari, I can't wait to show him this masterpiece, he's gonna go nuts!

It turns out the sound problem was a dirty/loose volume/power knob.

Sweet, ya got it working. Ya, that multicart is the best. Now to starting finding loose overlays. There is a guy on eBay selling repros that look pretty nice too!

Killer! Now go and play that thing like there is no tomorrow! Who knows with retro games suddenly becoming popular again in Korea I might just find one here. Yeah but probably not. Glad you got that beautiful machine going again.
