MAGFEST has been announced for next year! Jan 3 - 6, 2013 (Thu - Sun)

If you have listened to this show for any length of time you know that MAGFEST is a 4 day video gamers party with concerts, consoles, arcades, panels, parties and more that RetroGaming Roundup goes to and is on Staff in the Arcade section. This year the expo has grown even more as we have added an additional hall to the already insanely large layout of the show.

Hey, good point. I wasnted to ask Scott whether his pinballs melted again at magfest 2012 (specifically the flipper solenoids), or if not, what steps he took to prevent that.

I did have a solenoid melt down despite the extra cooling, BUT, it was due to a leaky TIP102 transistor. Step was a cooling fan directed at each flipper.

I am tentatively planning to attend this year because I missed CGE this year and well... as you all know there is nothing to do in Ohio. I'm considering volunteering to help with moving the arcade games but I'm not sure since it's my first time If I would be missing out on the "attendee" experience.

The Website for Descendants of erdrick says "As of January 2013, Descendants of Erdrick will be going through some major changes and restructuring the current lineup. Amanda will continue to lead DOE while the rest of the current members seek other quests. Descendants of Erdrick will continue on!"

They are listed on Magfest's website and since it's in January I'm guessing this may be their last live show with their current members with ups the stakes for me significantly!

We are having a staff meeting in about 2 weeks but are starting staffing now. If your both, or anyone else is interested in working the arcade dept (I know Focus is) I will be PMing you in the next few days with info on getting you set up for that. It is just about that time!

The big thing we need to know is can you work loadin or loadout during the days before and after MAGFEST, this sounds like it addresses your concern Kynrek. We are pretty well covered during the event, we need manpower and brainpower in the days prior to and after to conduct loading and setup. During the event we cut out movers loose to enjoy the show, and they are considered the rockstars of the arcade.

Im in for the arcade loadin, wont be able to stay the whole magfest. dont have that many hotel points :) But I can at least help with load in and setup and hangout a day or two. Depends on when the first day of setup is. But I do want to help.

no internet at fest so will have to post pics in the evening while i am at the holiday inn. first day was good for loadin. i am sore after hauling up arcade games out of the basement over at scotts neighbors house (thanks scott for buying me dinner last night!). setting up the RGRU booth today and assist in setting up the arcade and make adjustments or repairs. will post some pics tonight

850847849i am wiped. put in a 14 hour day today. moving games doing electrical work. but it is a blast so its a good kind of tired started to set up the RGRU booth today. just needed to pivk up a couple of items for the new atari RGRU game poster and the pong history frame. i picked up a couple more easels that i am donating to the show. here are some pics of my activities today

one of the pics shows the arcade department head Ethan asking me how to play Qbert on the intelli. overall today went really well. talked to quite a few people and got some promo cards out there. at 7pm today we passed the 4000 attendees. been fun running the booth! (had a vendor in the marketplace give me that pac man hat you see me wearing in the previous post). i also did some little mini competitions where i challenged people to a arcade game against me to win a prize :).

been meeting lots of people and getting interest in the show and forums :). i also was able to chat with the Digital Press editor in chief Matt Pappa who listens to the show and is interested in becoming more involved with RGRU. i picked up a cool donkey kong bit standup for the booth yesterdAy. will try to post a pick of it tonight. thanks to you guys for allowing me to man the RGRU booth!

did a little shopping today. put in 16 hours at the show today. tired but still a blast! scott got here around 8am and set up a playable beta of cge adventures (which i played and it is AWESOME). a few magfest goers played it and the general response to the game has been very positive. i think rgru has a winner on there hands!

i ran the pong competetion which went very well. once i get back from magfest i will be editing some video to post on my youtube channel of the fest and the pong contest

its pretty late and i am wiped. need to get some shuteye before the arcade panel with scott tommorrow

i plan on making this a yearly outing along with cge. maybe a play expo in the UK sometime :)

Oh I gots some video :) and some playtime. For a almost finished game, it is quite fun! Scott is a bastard in this game though!. Just need to work on making the vid a little more interesting to watch then will upload it to the RGRU facebook page as requested my Socal.

Not sure in Miner2049er would want Scott, Socal and me plus alcohol in his shed at one time :) I get kind of nutsy when I hit the sauce. I already have a bucket list for over there - 1. get a can of hot dogs, hot dogs in a can is awesome, 2. go on a RGRU dogging raid with the crew, 3. Harrass SepticLemon (gotta harrass my STR buddy!) 4. Check out a local arcade, 5. Get some authentic English Pub food 6. come down to your area and do a vid in Sherwood Forest (Focus hood) where I steal games and just keep them (and of coarse, harrass you as well :) )
