Want a SNES or NES controller to work on all iOS iCade compatible games, all Xperia Play compatible Android games, all Windows (and possibly DOS?), Linux and OS X games (games must allow keyboard controls)?
The currently unnamed converter supports both NES and SNES controllers, iCade, Xperial Play (untested) and regular (currently used iCade keys) keyboard output.
I have tested it on a handful of iCade apps on my iPad using the camera connection kit (official one as cheap fake ones seem to have connection issues) and a couple of emulators on OS X. It might be possible without a hardware redesign, to support the Wii Classic controller also (not 100% sure about this, but it looks possible to reuse the same pins as the NES/SNES controllers).
It would probably take a complete redesign of the board to support other controllers such as Atari joystick and other db-9 type joypads (sega), but from a software point of view, it looks easier than the Nintendo ones.

I know some people will ask, so here is the answer. No, you dont need a jailbroken device to use this. Only the Apple camera connection kit for iOS devices, other devices, such as Android phones/tablets will require USB host capability, which most of them should have out of the box. Windows/Linux(untested) and OS X should all work as-is out of the box.
The Very best part (I think so anyway) is that it is user configurable, You can edit the settings without any OS specific software. Any text editor will do, and there is no uploading or flashing to do when changing the settings, the gadget takes care of everything!
[edit] Just got the onscreen keyboard toggle working on iOS. So now anyone with this can press Start+Select to toggle the onscreen keyboard. Added a 4th control mode also -- Media remote - A or Y = Mute, B = Play/Pause, Up/Down = volume, Left/Right = prev/next track.
