I'm honestly not a huge fan of the Gameboy, but Donkey Kong is fantastic. That'd definitely be my #1.

Lots of good ones here. Mario Land parts 1 and 3 and Castlevania are both strong runners for number 1, assuming Tetris isnt thrown up there like it always is when discussing Game Boy (but for good reason).

Shame not to see other titles such as Gargoyles Quest, Deja Vu 1 and 2, and Dragon Warrior 1 and 2. Some of my faves right there!

Yeah, you at least have the advantage of either playing them on a Gameboy Advance SP (light at last!) or the awesome Gameboy Player on the Gamecube, which is SOOOOOO underrated.

Super Gameboy on the Super Nintendo is also nice, but only if you're going to track down Donkey Kong and Space Invaders (1994 version), because they both have awesome enhancements.

I picked up a Super Gameboy a couple of years ago at a flea market - specifically to play DK - but it didn't work.

Hiya, I've been a listener since December '09 and here's my first post in this forum, I would love to say thanks for Scoot, SoCal Mike and UK Mike because the Gameboy is dear to my heart since it was the first "real" games system I got. When I mean "real games system" I meant something that's not a micro computer, like my C64. Amazingly I was hardcore on the GameBoy, more than I was on the NES, I received my NES the Birthday after the Xmas I got my Gameboy, infact the NES was a "pass-me-down" from my Uncle who recently had his son born, and knew that he wouldn't have the time to play his NES. But even then, with my NES, I was mega Hardcore on the GameBoy, and at one point in my childhood days had a collection of 30 or so games for it, compared to about 7 on the NES. I have no idea why at the time I preferred a portable console over a TV console, maybe it was the versatility of being able to play video games where ever I was rather than being on a TV. Even though at the time My uncle gave me a TV to play the NES on in the spare bedroom, I still preferred to be somewhere that I wanted to be rather than chained up to a television set.

Talking about the games that were mentioned on the Podcast. A lot of them were great picks, though I never played Burger Time on the GB. But Castlevania Adventure? really? A friend of mine had this game, and he had the original Castlevania on his NES, but geez is it bad, it's borderline Simon's Quest bad, it's slow and sluggy. I would never put that on the list.

A Game I would put in it's place is The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awaking, it's such an amazing game, even though it might not be the greatest game in the franchise, as a GameBoy game though it's very good, and got me into the Zelda games; I would have it at least in the top 3.

A quick mention to a few overlooked games on the GB, there's Bubble Ghost, a French ZX Spectrum and C64 game that got ported to the GB is a really unique game that's similar to those steady hand electric games where you play as a ghost that tries to guide a bubble out of many rooms filled with plenty of obstacles that can burst it. Defiantly a game to try out. Another overlooked game is Radar Mission, this is a 2 in 1 game, where Game A is pretty much Battle Ships, but you have new play elements much as a sensor you can get to detect enemy ships if you miss a ship, but only 1 square away from it. You can also use an Aircraft Harrier to launch a fighter plane as a single square ship. Game B is a Submarine game whereby you have to gun down the enemy ships using torpedoes, but there's an enemy sub trying to take out your fleet too, and you have to shoot down the enemy fleet before the enemy sub shoots down yours. You had the ability to submerge that would bring up your sonar to see where the enemy are, and the enemy sub. Again, another overlooked game to check out.

Anyway, keep cracking these out in full force, I love them

I was surprised by Zelda's absence as well, especially since it was good enough to make the top ten cartridge handheld gamer list.

Never been a big fan of the Gameboy. The only 2 titles that stood out to me were Zelda and Tetris. Everything else just seemd to NES portable like in b&w to me. I was a fan of the Game Gear more for it being in Colour.

I felt like that for a while but the Gameboy has some fantastic games on it that still hold up today.

The thing that dissapointed me until the gameboy advance sp was released the system didnt have a full colour backlit screen. They should have released a backlit black & white version a year or two after the first model and the same for the colour system. I think the colour system would have been more popular if they had done this.
