Red face Video game music- not just for dorks like me anymore

If your posting in this forum, stands to reason you own the chrono cross soundtrack. However, here are some other things you should know about if your a gamer and a music nerd too.

Powerglove. Their newest album is badass. Its a mix of cartoon and movie themes, called Saturday Morning Apocalypse. Metal batman theme for the win.

Ocremix. If you haven't been here yet...well, just go.

now stands an argument, between Play- a video game orchestra, and VGL or video games live. VGL is headed by Tommy Tallrico....which I have problems with becasue that dude is generally pretty full of himself. Play though, I don't know if they do live shows...so check out either of those, or both if your so inclined. VGL has a bigger library of themes, while I believe Play is more technically superior.

Last but not least is the score to Shadow of the Colossus, which is quite possibly the greatest single score in history. The game is the foundation to my "games can be art" argument , so get on that if you can. It is one of the most rewarding games I've ever played, and the music is unparalleled. Make it happen, Captain.

_small side note_ Eric on the blogs recently mentioned Yoko Kanno, the genius behind the soundtrack to Cowboy bebop, Ghost In The Shell-SAC, and other wonderful work. I think anyone and everyone should have the bebop soundtrack, if for nothing other than there are some just killer music on there. Also, some of the best "doing it" songs in all of existence.

You know, I agree with the video games can be art thing, I raised the point in our Top Ten Soundtracks, but that is with regard to real orchestral music and a soundtrack to set a mood or to build suspense, but I have this problem, see.

Much as I have tried to listen to things like SlayRadio and SID Tunes etc, after around 3 minutes of thinking "this is cool" I've had enough and I'm ready for some real music.

I appreciate that people remixing SID Tunes and making 8bit music is a technical skill and requires a dedication, and should be considered art, but after 3 minutes I'm done.
