Hey folks. I'd say I was new to retro but that wouldn't really make sense.

A couple of months ago my daughter (11 yo) was trying to get me to go to the local "arcade" which to her is Chuck E Cheese or Dave's Garage, I cringed but then had the idea to do a search for retro arcade on the Internet and was really surprised to see a one of the few retro arcades was just an hour away; completely in BFE and their website showed a couple of machines and center most was a friggin' pool table. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. "Wow", I said when I walked into the arcade and saw all of my favorite games from the 80's right there. I played for hours and my daughter absolutely loved these arcade games, with Rampage being her favorite. I loved them all. We continued to go every Sunday, and my wife goes too, she's a bad ass on Galaga.

So anyway, I ended up building a MAME cab for one player from some general dimensions of a Galaga cab. I'm kinda hoping I can get some help getting ROMS to work correctly. I'll post some questions later.

Ya know the LCD isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I added some cool filters within MAME32UIFX and dammit, it looks pretty good. There's a hidden drawer in front for the keyboard and mouse. I guess if you set this in a room full of actual arcade games it would look out of place but in my living room it works really well.

Welcome to the forums, it's unusual to see a whole family enjoying enjoying a joint hobby, especially when its such a niche one, btu more power to you.

That looks like a well constructed cab though, nice job. Apart from the LCD obviously.

    Thanks Mike,

I took your advice on the MAME frontend: Maximus Arcade. It's awful nice and easy to configure. Ya know if I get a lot of use out of this MAME, on the next one I'll go all the way from an arcade monitor to coin doors.

Oh yeah it's so nice to have the wife back me up on this project. I got it up and going and put up Galaga and she played the shit out it! When she was done she gave me a hug and said "finally one of you silly ass projects turned out to be really cool!" How awesome is that!
