Great show guys!
While listening to the show UK mentioned Gatchaman and it's English title, Battle for the Planets. You guys also mentioned not being fans of fighting games (which I can respect). I'm sure you're aware of the the game Tatsunoko vs Capcom. The arcade and Japanese versions of this game have a slightly different characters set than the English one (I think one character was removed, and 4 were added to the US version). All versions include Ken the Eagle and Jun the Swan. The US and UK versions also include Joe the Condor.
Not a retro game for the list, but it came to mind when you brought up the Anime series.

Great show as always guys. For those of you looking for the Nintendo book Scott mentioned, it's published from http://www.pixnlovepublishing.com/ and they have free worldwide shipping. Vol. 2 is coming soon from them focused on the Game & Watch! I ordered mine and it is on the way.

Your going to love it, so many pictures of really cool stuff you never knew existed, it really fills out this history of Nintendo. Be sure to tell them you heard it here.

Actually while I was looking for where to buy the English version I emailed the author. We did a little back and forth, and I told him where I heard about it. He asked what episode so he could check it out. He remembered you from E3, and said he was glad that you honored your word. Seemed like a great guy, and I'm looking forward to the books!

Hey guys!
Really enjoying the latest episode.
Normally I keep them for when I work the night shift, so I can listen to them on my iPod and make the night go by a lot quicker.
But since I have a 2 week holiday break, I couldn't help myself and started listening to it already.
Still have plenty of episodes to listen to since I rediscovered the podcast only a couple of months back.
Especially enjoyed the Japanese top 10 arcade games section since I still consider myself an arcade gamer even though I haven't been to one in many years. (Grew up in a café when I was a kid, so I basically grew up on late 70's, early 80's arcade games.)
Anyway.
My picks would have certainly included Elevator Action, even though I fully understand how many people probably won't rate this game.
But for some reason this is one particular arcade game that I can come back to day after day, year after year and never get bored of. Better yet I always end up having a great time when I play it.
As for a more pure Japan styled game I would pick Mizubaku Adventure since it's also one of those titles that has that special kind of magic that I find really hard to explain.
Layer Section and Puzzle de Pon would have been 2 other games that I would rate very highly.
I noticed when you guys were talking about Dodonpachi that you thought these kinds of games were something of the 1990's and were not made anymore in this day and ago.
Well, I've very happy to say that these games are actually the very reason why I bought a 360 last month.
Even though most of them never leave Japan, a couple have been released in Europe thanks to www.risingstargames.com, namely Dodonpachi Resurrection and Death Smiles, with Akai Katana on the way.
There are even a couple of region free Japanese Cave shooters out that can be played on EU or US 360 as well.
Several of these have already been ported to iOS devices as well.
