I like Words With Friends but I'm not sure it should be in a list of video games.

    It's Scrabble.

That's it up until now and the list is shaping up into a pile of shite quite nicely. I see several popular recent games on there to please the crowd, a few of the most predictable classics imaginable, a handful of entries that appear to be cribbed from every other top games list around the web and no less than three different basketball games for some reason.

I have no doubt that there isn't a single person on this forum who couldn't come up with a much more interesting and insightful list with half an afternoon, a notepad and a pitcher or two of your favourite alcoholic beverage.

These lists are so friggin pointless, being entirely subjective in nature and trying desperately to have a "little bit of everything". Bollocks really.

Like using the Virtual Console version of a game.

    Why would you?

I was looking for some opinion chatter about this list. Personally, I was disappointed that there were no games from the computing era of games that was strong and healthy between 1983 and 1985. I'm talking about Apple II or C64 games. Just squeeze in a Summer Games or a Bard's Tale for goodness sakes. Mario gets credit for bringing back gaming but there were plenty of people playing video games when it came out. Just ask UK Mike!

I could pick and peck at their opinions forever. I don't like including games AND their sequels in the same list. I can see making an argument when the games are significantly different (RE1 vs RE4), but I think the gameplay of the original SMB is adequately represented in SMB 3 such that those two could take the same place on the list (which was 1st btw).

Frankly, I don't really think Pitfall gets enough credit (even in classic gaming circles). I see it as the first true console game. It included scoring but was really the first huge commercial success at a truly single player -not arcade- experience.

    More opinions:
Too many games from the same franchise in the top 10 - just pick one Mario and one Zelda.

    Doom was too low

I'd switch Half Life and Bioshock

Shadow of the Colossus at 9 is kind of a shocker

Edit: This site has a full listing
