Default Farewell Psygnosis, you will be missed but not forgotten

Today we mourn the loss of another UK games studio, and one with an incredible heritage that has bestowed upon the world of gaming some games that not only changed the gaming landscape at the time, but started, or fudned IP's that have stood the test of time, and become true classics. Wipeout, Lemmings, Destruction Derby, Shadow of the Beast to name a couple.

"As part of SCE Worldwide Studios, we do regular reviews to ensure that the resources we have can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects in an increasingly competitive market place. As part of this process, we have reviewed and assessed all current and planned projects for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to our European Studios.

"It has been decided that Liverpool Studio should be closed. Liverpool Studio has been an important part of SCE Worldwide Studios since the outset of PlayStation, and have contributed greatly to PlayStation over the years. Everyone connected with Liverpool Studio, past and present, can be very proud of their achievements.

"However, it was felt that by focusing our investment plans on other Studios that are currently working on exciting new projects, we would be in a stronger position to offer the best possible content for our consumers.

"Our Liverpool Facility will continue to operate, housing a number of other vital WWS!E and SCEE Departments.

"This should not take anything away from the great work WWS are doing and the incredible games and services that we have made, and continue to make, both for this coming year and further in the future."
What was you favourite Psygnosis game (either developed or published)?

Beyond loving every Wipeout game (even Fusion, just) I think i have the best memories of my life in general surrounding F1 '97, which brought high speed F1 action to playstation (and my PC with a 3DFX voodoo) with OMG real looking TV overlay graphics.
Of course it's an extra special game, as it was developed by Bizarre Creations, who we lost last year (but fortunately it meant that i get to work with former BC staff that found homes at Sumo)

    Shadow of the beast
    or
    Lemmings

The best part of their games were the haunting music.
    What a great legacy.
But like Atari it has simply been just a name for a while

More than anything else, Spin is here. For me, Blood Money on the Amiga 500 blowing the entire 90's PC platform away.

Such a shame, they were always top notch in the Amiga days (and afterwards, although they weren't really the same company - kind of like 80s EA/Activision and 00s EA/Activision). It's hard to pick a favorite, but I have to go with Lemmings (Amiga).

Baal was the first game I bought when I got my A500. Shadow of the Beast was legendary - one of the best game soundtracks of all time. I always like Menace more then Blood Money, but both were great.

If you ever to a "Top 10 16-bit Computer Game Companies" to match the 8-bit one you just did, Psygnosis would have to be my #1.
If you can't do it with 8 bits, you don't need to do it.

Funnily enough though most of the games being mentioned were purely published by Psygnosis rather than being developed there (like WipeOut). Lemmings, for example, was DMA Design.

One of my favorites was / is Wiz and Liz for the Genesis. Great fun and has that Psygnosis feel all over it.

Retro Shaun is right they seem to have published many more games than they actually developed. On the games they did in fact develop I would have to say that Colony Wars for the PS1 was my favorite. Wiz and Liz for example was developed by Raising Hell software and only published by Psygnosis.

I played a lot of Wiz and Liz on the Amiga. Fun game. I always thought G-Police was a fun game that never got a lot of love.

G-Police was a great game, I loved that.
