Review: MicroQuest (iOS)

Some of you may remember the game Chip’s Challenge on Atari Lynx, Amiga and ZX Spectrum. If you remember Chip’s and enjoyed it then, you have to check out the just released MicroQuest, for iOS. Like Chip’s, MicroQuest has you take the role of a computer nerd, aptly named Curtis Nerdly. While Curtis was away doing what ever computer nerds do, the dastardly pirate menace Capt. Nick De Code made off with all your program code and scattered it all over place. Now you must search each level and retrieve the code before your game is hacked and everyone can get it for free. Imagine that!

Each level is a cleverly designed puzzle with a set amount of code that needs to be retrieved. To retrieve the code you simply have to walk over it, but getting to all the pieces of code can become quite challenging as the game continues. Early levels have you simply gathering code while grabbing color coded keys to enter the color coded areas; keeping in mind there is an order of doing things that if not followed correctly the first time will have you resetting the level and trying again. The game really does a great job of starting you out on simple levels and taking you step by step through the game’s obstacles, enemies and mechanics. There are color coded water levels, roaming computer pirates, moveable crates and much more.  One level even has you collecting code in a maze that is a spittin’ image of the original maze game, Pac-Man.  Cool!

We are having a blast working our way through each level and discovering new things as we go.  Hey, did we mention this game is FREE right now?  That’s right completely free and it also has i-Cade support.  Do games get any better?  I think not!  If you love the classics and especially maze roaming puzzlers than you should quit reading this and download this App right now.  Great Job on your first game Spinal!
