Every console has that Holy Grail. The game that is so rare, so limited, that it becomes legendary. For the Atari it is the rare and elusive Air Raid, which recently sold on GameGavel for $33,400 and for the NES it is Stadium Events from Bandai. To the untrained eye, this game looks like just another common Nintendo NES title, but collectors know better. You see, Bandai was the first to publish and release this game for the NES back in 1987 but was soon replaced with a Nintendo version of the game. All Bandai versions were to be disposed of in lieu of the Nintendo version renamed to World Class Track Meet. Needless to say, a few copies of the Bandai release made it out into consumer’s hands prior to the recall and these games today are worth thousands. It is considered to be the most rare of all licensed Nintendo NES games.
And, just recently, a complete in box copy of Bandai’s Stadium Events was uncovered at a Goodwill store for the mere price of $7.99. To put this into some context of it’s “actual” value, one recently sold at auction for around $12,000 missing the manual and not in as good of condition as the one just uncovered at the Goodwill. It is rumored this recent discovery will be put up for auction in the coming weeks and could set a new high water mark for this Nintendo NES rarity. Perhaps, it will be up for auction here on GameGavel.
